The Richmond Derby Demons began in September 2006 as a female amateur flat-track roller derby league striving to promote sportswomanship, female empowerment and philanthropy. Since then, we have opened our doors to include Richmond's first men's roller derby team. We currently serve as a travel league - playing about one game a month - but we are beginning to schedule home games now that we have found our new home at Rollerdome!

As a league, we are dedicated to giving back to the community through charity work and by promoting family-friendly derby! Roller derby spans all ages - from children to the elderly. We believe that everyone should be allowed to watch and experience this great sport, which is why we make all our games all-ages. Like most leagues across the United States, the Richmond Derby Demons is skater owned, managed and operated.

As a quad-skate league, we adhere to the rules and guidelines set forth by the Old School Derby Association (OSDA).

Our league was founded on communication and inclusiveness. Together we are a group with a common goal: to bring the sport of roller derby to the Richmond area. With open dialog and by allowing everyone's voice to be heard, we hope we can all achieve that goal together.

The name Derby Demons is a tribute to a roller derby icon, Ann Calvello. Known as the "Demon of the Derby," Calvello, who passed away in March 2006, competed in the sport for seven decades. Behind her spitfire attitude and over-the-top looks, she had true passion and dedication to the sport. We hope every skater on our league shares Calvello's passion and has a little bit of "derby demon" in them.
